
Job Title: Driver
Reporting Lines: Reports to the Operations and Logistics Co-ordinator
Location: Freetown, with regular visits to the Provinces
Contract: 2.5 years Fixed Contract (Subject to Probationary Period)
We are now looking for an experienced Female Driver, over 25, to join our expanding team as we enter into this exciting new delivery phase.
This role will be vital to the smooth running of the charity and the delivery of its activities. Responsibilities will include support to our programme by safely transporting staff, partners and visitors to ensure we are able to deliver our work to adolescent girls. You will also be responsible for transporting goods and materials and running errands. The driver is often seen as the public face of the organisation so the highest standards of discretion and integrity, sense of responsibility as well as excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues will be required. The driver should maintain confidentiality and have the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
- Provide reliable and secure driving services by driving the vehicle safely for the transport of authorised personnel associated with the Purposeful Productions programme
- Collect and deliver mail, documents and other items
- Ensure that any materials or property of Purposeful Productions are carried in a secure manner
- Drive in a manner suitable for the road conditions and respecting the traffic rules and Purposeful Productions set speed limits
- Ensure that the log books are properly maintained and monthly log sheets are filled and submitted to the line manager, in time
- Perform all routine checks (daily, weekly, monthly) required and ensure that the vehicle is kept clean
- Ensure that all tools and equipment provided to the driver are kept safely and available in the car. She will be required to account for any loss of this equipment
- Inform the line manager of any due vehicle service in good time, and remind the line manager of renewals required for insurance, registration or road-worthiness
- Ensure that the fuel records for the vehicle/s are maintained properly and the vehicle is fuelled regularly, based on use and consumption
- Ensure that immediate steps as required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident
- Before a weekend or public holiday, for any vehicle to be used by an authorised person the driver should call this person and show them that all checks have been performed and that the vehicle is in a fit condition to be used
- Perform other related duties as required
- Completion of secondary school or equivalent
- Drivers training with a valid driver’s license is required
- Two years’ work experience as a driver, preferably with an NGO
- Sound knowledge of road systems
- Knowledge of vehicle systems
- Experience & knowledge in performing basic maintenance checks
- Must be able to write and speak English
- Must be able to communicate clearly, effectively and confidently with international staff through one to one contact and by use of cell phone
- Ability to be reasonable to other road users and must be security conscious
- Must be flexible and sociable
